Frequently asked questions
Which Macs display the P40K in 5K, and at what refresh rate?
All Macs with M1 to M5 chips display it in 5K (5120 × 2160) over a single USB-C cable, with 100 W charging. The P40K goes up to 120 Hz on Macs with M4 and later, as well as on M2 Pro, M2 Max, M2 Ultra, M3 Pro, M3 Max and M3 Ultra; it stays at 60 Hz on M1 (all versions), M2 and M3. The MacBook Neo is limited to one 4K display at 60 Hz.
Is my MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max affected by the high refresh rate display bug?
Yes, it can be. Users of displays from several brands report that over USB-C or Thunderbolt, macOS sometimes brings displays set to a higher refresh rate back down to 60 Hz. Apple has not released any fix to date; macOS 27 Golden Gate should normally fix it. In the meantime, connect the P40K to the Mac's HDMI port with an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable: its HDMI 2.1 input accepts 5K at 120 Hz. The base M5 is not affected.
Does the P40K work with an Intel Mac?
Yes, with Macs with integrated Intel graphics from 2020 and later (10th-generation Intel Core), in 5K over Thunderbolt 3. Macs with an AMD graphics card are not supported.
What do you need on a PC to reach 5K at 120 Hz?
A DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 or USB-C output with a compatible graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or newer, AMD Radeon RX 5500 or newer, or a 12th-generation Intel processor with integrated graphics. NVIDIA Maxwell and Pascal and AMD Polaris cards do not support 5K.
Is the screen matte or glossy?
Matte. The panel has an anti-glare coating with 3H hardness, which diffuses light from a window or a lamp instead of reflecting it.
Is one cable enough to connect a MacBook?
Yes. The included USB-C cable carries the 5K picture at 120 Hz, up to 100 W of charging and the data for the monitor's two USB-C ports. For 100 W charging with another cable, choose a 5 A USB-C cable with an e-marker chip.
What ports does the P40K have?
One USB-C upstream port (video, data and 100 W charging), one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1, two USB-C downstream ports at USB 2.0 speed and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, with every video port in 5K at 120 Hz. The power supply is built in.
What is the difference between the plain back and the perforated back?
Only the look: the plain back is solid aluminum, the perforated back has two wide honeycomb-pattern strips. The panel, ports and refresh rate are identical. You choose the back when you buy.
Is the stand included?
You choose the mount when you buy: a 100 × 100 VESA mount for an arm or a wall mount, a fixed stand, or a stand adjustable for height, tilt, swivel and portrait rotation. The VESA mount is still included even if you choose a stand.
Is text as sharp as on a 27-inch 5K display?
No. The P40K displays 139 pixels per inch, against 218 for a 27-inch 5K display. In return, it offers a 94 cm wide panel, with as many pixels in width as a 5K display, and is best viewed from a little farther away.
Does the P40K support HDR?
It supports HDR10 over HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C, with 400 nits full screen. HDR is automatic by default and can be turned off in the monitor's menu; on a Mac, the "High Dynamic Range" option appears depending on the model.
Does the P40K replace the P40U?
Yes. The P40K uses the 40-inch chassis of the P40U and goes up to 120 Hz in 5K.
Does the P40K have a camera?
No. For video calls, use your Mac's camera or an external camera.
What warranty do I get, and will I pay taxes?
2-year warranty worldwide. Kuycon does not charge any taxes: at checkout, you choose DDP (import fees paid in advance, nothing to pay on arrival) or DAP (VAT and duties paid to the carrier on delivery), depending on the options available in your country.
How long does delivery take?
To an EU country, express delivery from our EU warehouse takes 48 to 96 h, subject to stock availability. Otherwise, the monitor ships from the factory: 5 to 10 business days by Air Express DAP, 10 to 20 business days by Air Express DDP, 30 to 40 business days by truck with DDP. You then have 14 days to change your mind.
