Frequently asked questions
Which Macs display the W34KB in 5K, and at what refresh rate?
All Macs with M1 to M5 chips display it in 5K over a single USB-C cable, with 100 W charging. The W34KB goes up to 165 Hz in 5K on Macs with M4 and later, as well as on M2 Pro, M2 Max, M2 Ultra, M3 Pro, M3 Max and M3 Ultra; it stays at 60 Hz on M1 (all versions), M2 and M3. Apple, for its part, guarantees a 5K display up to 120 Hz from M4 chips onward, and 60 Hz before that. The MacBook Neo is limited to a 4K display at 60 Hz.
Is my MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max affected by the high refresh rate display bug?
Yes, it can be. Users of displays from several brands report that over USB-C or Thunderbolt, macOS sometimes brings displays set to a higher refresh rate back down to 60 Hz. Apple has not released any fix to date; macOS 27 Golden Gate should normally fix it. In the meantime, connect the W34KB to the Mac's HDMI port with an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. The base M5 is not affected.
What do you need to reach 5K at 180 Hz?
On a PC, a DisplayPort 1.4 output with DSC (or DisplayPort 2.1), or HDMI 2.1 at 48 Gbps, with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or newer graphics card, or an AMD Radeon RX 5500 or newer. NVIDIA Maxwell and Pascal cards, AMD Polaris and Vega cards do not support it; Intel graphics cards display the monitor without reaching 180 Hz in 5K. On a Mac, see the question on compatibility.
Is the 360 Hz mode in 5K?
No. The 360 Hz mode runs in 2K (2560 × 1080), exactly half of 5K on each axis: each displayed pixel covers 2 × 2 pixels of the panel, with no interpolation blur. You switch from one mode to the other in the monitor's menu or with the remote; the screen goes black for a second or two during the change.
What is the difference between the plain back and the perforated back?
The perforated back hides built-in stereo speakers; the plain back, in solid aluminum, has none. The panel, ports and refresh rates are identical. You choose the back when you buy.
Is one cable enough to connect a MacBook?
Yes. The included USB-C cable carries the 5K picture, up to 100 W of charging and the data for the monitor's two USB-C ports. For 100 W charging with another cable, choose a 5 A USB-C cable with an e-marker chip.
What ports does the W34KB have?
One USB-C upstream port at 40 Gbps (video, data and 100 W charging), one DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, two HDMI 2.1 at 48 Gbps, two USB-C downstream ports at USB 2.0 speed and a 3.5 mm jack output. The power supply is built in.
Is the stand included?
No. The monitor mounts to a 100 × 100 VESA pattern on an arm or a wall mount. The fixed stand or the height-adjustable stand, which also allows rotation to portrait mode, is an option you choose when you buy.
Is the screen glossy or matte?
Glossy, with high-transmission glass. Like any glossy screen, it reflects a window placed opposite it: it works best in a room without strong direct light.
Does the W34KB support HDR?
It is HDR10 compatible over HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C, at the HDR600 level and with 450 nits full screen. It has no local dimming and no Mini-LED backlight. HDR can be turned off in the monitor's menu.
Is text as sharp as on a 27-inch 5K display?
Not quite. The W34KB displays 163 pixels per inch, against 218 for a 27-inch 5K display. It stays sharp in HiDPI on a Mac, and offers much more width in return: 5120 pixels, as many as a 5K display.
Does the W34KB replace the G34W?
Yes. It keeps the G34W's 5K on 34 inches, which was limited to 60 Hz, and adds the 180 Hz and 360 Hz dual mode, a 3300:1 contrast ratio, HDR600 and a single USB-C cable with 100 W charging.
Can I connect a PC or a console?
Yes. A PC connects over DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 or USB-C. A PS5, a PS4 Pro or an Xbox Series X|S displays in 4K at 60 Hz HDR over HDMI.
Does the W34KB have a camera?
No. For video calls, use your Mac's camera or an external camera.
What warranty do I get, and will I pay taxes?
2-year warranty worldwide. Kuycon does not charge any taxes: at checkout, you choose DDP (import fees paid in advance, nothing to pay on arrival) or DAP (VAT and duties paid to the carrier on delivery), depending on the options available in your country.
How long does delivery take?
To an EU country, express delivery from our EU warehouse takes 48 to 96 h, subject to stock availability. Otherwise, the monitor ships from the factory: 5 to 10 business days by Air Express DAP, 10 to 20 business days by Air Express DDP, 30 to 40 business days by truck with DDP. You then have 14 days to change your mind.
